Southern Ute tribal member, Cyrus Naranjo was among the first to get some action on the recently unveiled Piinu Nucchi skate park located within SunUte Park in Ignacio, Colo. Fences came down in April, and since that time the park has been open to the public.

Introducing Piinu Nuuchi community skatepark!

Members of the Sunshine Cloud Smith Youth Advisory Council (SCSYAC) join the Southern Ute Tribal Council for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the new skatepark at SunUte park. SCSYAC members: Elijah Weaver, Nate and Elliot Hendren and Lexy Young join Southern Ute Chairman Christine Sage and Councilman Cedric Chavez, to hold ceremonial golden shovels on the site of the new skatepark. Chairman Sage and Councilman Chavez offered words of praise and support during the groundbreaking ceremony, Friday, June 26.

SUIMA christens SunUte playground

The SunUte Community Center playground will be revamped in the weeks to come. The playground, which sits adjacent to SunUte Park, will feature more play area, a bigger slide and some brand-new equipment. The playground construction began Monday, Nov. 12 and is projected to be completed in the next three weeks if weather conditions allow. Keep in mind the playground area will remain closed to the public until completion.

SunUte Recreation collaborated with Southern Ute Health Center’s Public Health during their water safety event to offer the Boys & Girls Club kids a slippery, wet, fun day on Wednesday, July 18.
