Tribal campus brings cheer

Sun Ute Recreation staff held the Native American Indigenous Games (NAIG) update meeting on Thursday, Nov. 17 at the Sun Ute Recreation Center conference room. Recreation Manager, Virgil Morgan gave an update to families attending the 2023 NAIG in Halifax, Nova Scotia and opened the floor to questions. SunUte presents NAIG update

The Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy (SUIMA) upper elementary classroom started off December with a candy cane fundraiser for their end of the year field trip to Santa Fe, N.M. The SUIMA class plans on doing two more fundraisers before the start of their Christmas break. Kaylee Cuthair purchases candy canes to go to different tribal departments on campus, Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Hall of Warriors.

Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy (SUIMA) upper elementary students held a coffee shop sale on Thursday, Nov. 17 to raise funds for their end of the year Santa Fe trip. Southern Ute tribal staff, students and teachers from SUIMA and family members stopped by to buy coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate and donuts. The students made approximately $150 to go towards their trip.

Sun Ute hosts Gourd Dance

Construction of the boat storage units at the Southern Ute Fairgrounds (SUFG) is progressing despite cold, wet weather. SUFG Manager Jay Dee Brunson anticipates having the slabs for the units finished by mid-December weather permitting. More information will be coming from the Growth Fund in the near future as far as reservations, price, and sizing per unit. Construction is still on schedule to have the project complete by late spring — once again weather permitting. Workers put down hay on plastic coverings, Thursday Nov. 10. at the entrance to the Southern Ute Fairgrounds.

Vets gourd dancing in Utah

Vice-Chairman Ramona Eagle visited the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy primary three and four classrooms to read them stories for Native American Month on Thursday Nov. 10. The students interacted with finger puppets, which Vice-Chairman Eagle brought as she read through each story, asking and providing Ute words for questions for the students.

Tribal elders Connie Baker and Terri Box showed their support at the SUIMA bake sale, Wednesday, Oct. 26. The class is raising money for an end of-the-year field trip to Santa Fe, N.M. They raised approximately $800.
