Uncompahgre Powwow graces Montose

The Southern Ute Veterans Association stood alongside Miss Southern Ute, Zuriah Baker and Jr. Miss Southern Ute, Shayne White Thunder during the Uncompahgre Powwow in Montrose, Colo., Saturday, Oct. 18. Many spectators gathered at the Montrose Event Center to help celebrate the powwow, now in its second year.
Dancers from around the area danced during the first Grand Entry of the powwow on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The first Grand Entry kicked off in Montrose, Colo. for the Uncompahgre Powwow.
Miss Southern Ute, Zuriah Baker and Jr. Miss Southern Ute, Shayne White Thunder walked in with royalty behind the color guard on the final Grand Entry of the day.

The 2nd Uncompahgre Powwow took place in Montrose, Colo., Saturday, Oct. 18. The one-day powwow brought dancers from many different tribes, especially the three Ute Tribes: the Ute Tribe, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, and the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Dancers took the floor to dance in contests, inter–tribals, Grand Entry, and gourd dance.
