At the request of the Los Pinos Fire District and Deputy Chief of Operations, Jim Owens — Matthew Box and son, Noah Box performed a blessing on two fire engines recently brought into service for Los Pinos Fire District. Box explains the significance of a traditional blessing to the firefighters, prior to singing a Buffalo Song, Monday, Aug. 14.

The Southern Ute Indian Tribe and Pueblo Community College partnered to host a Farmers Forum, Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the Sky Ute Casino Resort. The program, dedicated to fostering discussions and promoting new agricultural courses, invited local farmers to express their ideas. Among the speakers that night was Southern Ute tribal member Marvin Pinnecoose, who shared his thoughts, challenges, and experiences as a beginning farmer taking over his families’ land assignment north of Ignacio.

Ignacio Community Library Director, Marcia Vining and bookmobile driver, Dixie Cook stand for a photo with “Dewy,” the bookmobile, Wednesday, Aug. 2. Introduced earlier this year, Dewey, the library’s bookmobile currently has three established routes throughout the community. Regional veterans gather to learn about PACT Act eligibility

The Ute language classes have returned for employees of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Classes, held every Friday at noon, are sponsored by the Southern Ute Education Department, and taught by tribal elder, Lynda D’Wolf. The language classes focus on expanding vocabulary and memorization of basic phrases in Ute. Participants are welcome to join at any time, the hour-long classes are held in the Chief Ignacio Conference Room in the Leonard C. Buch Building through the month of August.
