The Burch family held a special recognition for Trennie Burch for the work she put into the Leonard C. Burch Art & Literacy contest, which spanned almost a decade. The annual Leonard C. Burch Art and Literacy Contest honored Leonard C. Burch and his life. A Public Relations initiative for students from the Ignacio Public School District and the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy, with the goal of bringing awareness to the younger students regarding the significance of Leonard C. Burch Day. Burch was gifted with a Pendelton blanket and acknowledged for her commitment to the legacy of the late Leonard C. Burch, Wednesday, Dec. 10.

The 11th annual Leonard C. Burch Walk-Run drew participants from across Ignacio to participate in the fitness event, Wednesday, Dec. 10. This event commemorates Burch for his exceptional leadership and achievements while serving as the Chairman of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe for many years. Furthermore, every December 10th is dedicated as Leonard C. Burch Day. This year’s program was sponsored by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, SunUte Community Center, the Sky Ute Casino Resort and MBSS Attorneys.
