Members of the first cohort of the Southwest Indigenous Language Development Institute Ute Language Certification class gather with Fort Lewis College Dean of the School of Education, Dr. Jenni Trujillo for one of their final in-person classes held on Sunday, March 12 at the Culture Center and Museum. In total, 27 students from all three Ute tribes finished the program and were certified as teachers of the Ute language.

On behalf of the Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council, Executive Officer Steve R. Herrera Sr. hands Crystal Rizzo a plaque in recognition of her achievement in earning a master’s degree in gender and cultural studies from Simmons College. The Tribe recognized all tribal member graduates of 2012 at the annual Education Banquet on Saturday, June 23 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Durango, Colo.
