Men fry up the pana at MPF

Multi-Purpose Facility Administrative Assistant, Jacqueline Frost serves tribal elder, Georgia McKinley during the monthly Sip, Chat, and Chew at the Multi-Purpose Facility on Friday, Jan. 21. Tribal members were able to get a meal, get involved in a raffle for prizes and participate in a Men’s Frybread Making contest later in the afternoon.

The Shining Mountain Health and Wellness division hosted a spice workshop where visitors could ask questions about spices and seasonings for all their holiday needs in the Hall of Warriors on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Shining Mountain Health and Wellness Diabetes Patient Coordinator, ShawMarie Tso talks with a tribal employee about the benefits of making your own taco seasonings as opposed to using premade seasoning packets which typically have higher salt content.

Songs of the season

The intersection of Rolling Thunder Ave. and Elk St. receives a new layer of pavement by Four Corners Materials, a subtractor of WCA Construction LLC, on Monday, Oct. 3. This is the final intersection to be completed in the Cedar Point Housing Road Improvement Project which was started in July to fix roads within the subdivision and was led by the Tribal Planning Department. The project will be stopped for the winter season and will resume in the spring or summer of 2023.

Paving the way

Volunteer LeAnn Wesley takes an order for a customer at a Halloween Haunted House Fundraiser hosted by the Multi-Purpose Facility on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in the Gathering Room. All proceeds from the fundraisers will go towards the annual Haunted House, which is set to take place at the end of October.

MPF hosts Halloween fundrasier

Maynard Taylor attempts to do a trick on his skateboard. Taylor was one of many participants showing off their skateboarding skills at the second annual Skate Park Jam held at the Píinuu Nuuchi Skate Park on Friday, Sept. 24. The annual event is held to promote awareness for mental health and suicide prevention in the community. Held in conjunction with Suicide Prevention Month, the event introduced the new “988” number as the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which recently went live, from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Growth Fund gives financial update, projections for 2023

Southern Ute Growth Fund Finance Director, Darrell Owen discusses the importance of the Financial Plan of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at the Southern Ute Growth Fund. The Financial Plan Townhall was held to introduce the Riveron Advisory Firm – consultant for the project – and was a platform for tribal members to ask questions about the upcoming revised Financial Plan.

Southern Ute Indian Montessori Principal, Mari Jo Owens works on a group activity with classmate and tribal elder Willette Whiteskunk, Wednesday, July 13 in the Southern Ute Museum’s large classroom. Both Owens and Whiteskunk are participants of the Southwest Indigenous Language Institute (SILDI) class to become certified as a Ute language instructor next spring.
