20 Years Ago: During the Rollin’ Deep Car Show, cars, bikes and trikes were on display and a concert featuring NBK was held on the Tribal Campus in Ignacio on Aug. 5. Rollin’ Deep president Manuel Myore (far left) and Vice-president Fred Cotton (holding measuring stick) judge the car-hopping contest. This truck cleared 36inches to win the competition.

Arthur “Johnny” Weaver receives a Pendleton blanket and a certificate from Southern Ute Court Bailiff, Jack Frost Jr. for completing the tuuCai Wellness Court on Thursday, Feb. 6. The Wellness Court encourages defendants in DUI and Drug related cases to find and maintain sobriety during a one-year period. It is a unique program offered by Southern Ute Tribal Court that addresses alcoholism and substance addiction through the use of a holistic and problem-solving approach. The ceremony was held in the Southern Ute Tribal Courtroom.

10 Years Ago: Tribal Chairmen; Joe Shirley – Navanjo Nation President, Ernest House Sr., – Ute Mountain Ute Chairman and Clement Frost – Southern Ute Chairman pose at the release valve that was ceremonially used to release run-off water contained in Lake Nighthorse – signifying the first water to be released as a part of the water rights settlement, to provide water to the western United States.
