The sound of drums filled the air during the 97th Annual Southern Ute Tribal Fair, Ignacio, Colo. Powwow dancers and singers competed throughout the weekend, travelling from across the region to participate in this year’s event. The powwow is held annually at the Sky Ute Downs, craft and food vendors play a large role in the energy surrounding this cultural gathering. The contest powwow was held from Sept. 8-10. Saturday night’s events included an impressive fireworks display over the skyline of the Southern Ute Reservation.
