FROST – Jack McClure Frost Jr., age 63, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. Jack was born March 8th, 1962, in Durango, CO to Sharon Kay Pinnecoose and Jack McClure Frost Sr.
Jack is Pawnee, Southern Cheyenne, and an enrolled Southern Ute Tribal Member.
He grew up in Ignacio, CO and graduated in 1980 from Ignacio High School. After high school Jack enlisted in the Marine Corp, he served for 8 years that included being on active duty in Okinawa, Japan for 15 months. He would tell stories about the Cobra Gunship attack helicopter that he would work on and how they would be used. Jack was honorably discharged as a Sergeant, grade E-5, in 1984, which he was proud of, Semper Fi.
After being discharged he lived in California where his daughter Kimberly was born. After a few years he moved back to Ignacio, CO where he raised his children Rhiannon, Jack, and Hunter.
In 1991, he became a police officer for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, a job that gave him even more stories to share. Throughout his life he’d like to travel to visit friends and family in Oklahoma, share his passion of cars with everyone, he’d always say “Mopar or no car”. And of course, customizing his vehicles any way he could with his favorite colors red and yellow.
Jack was an active Southern Straight Dancer and Gourd Dancer with The Four Corners Gourd Dance and Southern Straight War Dance Society.
He liked to spend his days fishing the Animas and at Lake Capote when he could and when hunting season came, you’d find him looking for turkeys, glassing canyons and taking pictures of the scenery.
He loved telling stories, sharing his knowledge, and exploring nature. With his grandchildren Phillip Velasquez “his sidekick,” Sage and Easton Velasquez, Audelena, Avalina and Alina Frost, Redsky Jorgenson, Paisley and Rosie Frost.
Jack is survived by his children Kimberly Frost, Rhiannon Velasquez (Fidel Velasquez), Jack Frost III (Lainey Frost), Hunter Frost (Kelcie Arrowchis), Partner In Crime Bobbie Sage, Brother Andrew Frost (Verissa Frost) Sister Jacqueline Frost, and numerous grandkids, niece, nephews, and relatives.
Jack is proceeded in death by his mother Sharon Kay Pinnecoose, Father Jack McClure Frost SR., brother Chief PrairieChief, Sister Tyner PrairieChief, brother William Frost, Sister Andrea Richards, sister Suzette Frost, Grandmother Thelma Stoneroad, and many other loved ones.
A wake was held Sunday, March 8, 2026 at the Multipurpose Facility Chapel in Ignacio, CO. A service was held at the Multipurpose Facility in Ignacio, CO on Monday, March 9, 2026. Please bring your hot rods to celebrate Jacks love of all vehicles. Jack will be cremated and his family will be spreading his ashes in “No Tell Canyon.”
