Youth explore Ute culture

On Tuesday, June 5, the SunUte Community Center’s Recreation staff hosted a fishing field trip to Lake Capote under pristine blue skies. Open to youth from eight to 18, the staffers gave summer students a chance to get their lines in the water and share some quality outdoor time with peers on the tribally owned reservoir. A wild field trip

10 Years Ago: Lake Capote opened the gates to fisherman on Thursday, April 12. Snow flurries interspersed with clear skies and crisp air did not deter the many fishermen who descended on the lake for opening day. Drawing anglers from the Ignacio community and as far south as Farmington, N.M. Derby prizes were awarded totaling in the hundred-dollar range for specially tagged fish. Lake Manager Craig Reinhart manned the bait shop with a little help from Parks and Recreation Manager, Josh Batchelor.
