Celebrating community at MPF

Gourd dancers from the Southern Ute reservation and the Four Corners region, flank Head Woman Dancer, Heather White Thunder as she is honored during the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy Gourd Dance at the SunUte Community Center, Saturday, Nov. 19. Sun Ute hosts Gourd Dance

Southern Ute tribal member, Shayne White Thunder is the newest recipient of the Elbert J. Floyd Award, accompanied by her mother Heather White Thunder and sister Malia White Thunder, White Thunder was presented the award by Education Director, LaTitia Taylor and Public Education Specialist, Ellen Baker on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Southern Ute Veteran’s Memorial Park.

Southern Ute Tribal Member Shayne White Thunder attends the Apache Gold Casino and Resort Intertribal Powwow Saturday, March 5 — Sunday, March 6, held at the San Carlos Event Center, San Carlos, Ariz. White Thunder competed for the first time in the Junior Girls Traditional dance category and placed second overall. Apache Gold is one of the many celebrations kicking off the powwow season and dancers from all over Indian Country came together to celebrate after a long hiatus due to the pandemic.
