Cupid shuffles love at Valentine’s dance

The Hendren family, brothers Nate, Elliott and Dewayne along with their sisters, Somer and Jada Cloud attended the 2018 Indigenous Comic Con at the Isleta Resort and Casino, Nov. 2 through Nov. 4 in Albuquerque, N.M. They were really excited as they had attended the very first Indigenous Comic Con in 2016. They watched their first live wrestling match featuring Tatanka who once wrestled with the WWF.

National UNITY Conference convenes in San Diego

Lane Hunter, along with brothers, Nate and Dewayne Hendren made the rounds on the Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s campus Friday, Feb. 2, selling Krispy Kreme donuts, assorted or original. The student’s fundraising efforts will help pay for a dance choreographer, Gabe Garcia, and for future dance competitions they will be competing in. The boys dance with the La Plata County Independent Youth Performing Arts, and they will be practicing with Garcia, preparing for the dance competitions at the Manzano High School in Albuquerque, N.M. on March 24. Krispy Kreme … anyone?

On Monday morning Dec. 5, brothers: Elliott, Nate, Dewayne and Issac held up signs at the corner of State Highway 172 and County Road 517 showing their support for the veterans that have traveled to Standing Rock to help protect the water protectors and to show solidarity against the oil pipeline. On Sunday, Dec. 4 the Obama administration denied a permit needed to complete the oil pipeline.

San Ignacio Fiesta returns

Students of La Plata Youth Services, based out of Durango, made their way down to the Southern Ute Indian Reservation Wednesday, July 6 to tour the Southern Ute Indian Tribe as part of their “Youth of Color Rez Day.” The youth got to meet Southern Ute royalty, tour the Southern Ute Museum and Cultural Center and appear on air at KSUT all before enjoying lunch, courtesy of the Sky Ute Casino Resort.

Tri-Ute Games: Opening ceremony

The annual Southern Ute Bear Dance made its return in Ignacio from May 27 – May 30 at the Bear Dance grounds, gathering tribal members from the Southern Ute, Northern Ute, Ute Mountain Ute, and community locals for a weekend of celebration.

Southern Utes celebrate spring with Bear Dance

The 2016 Ignacio Soccer Camp fundraiser for IHS Girls Soccer at took place from May 31 to June 2 at the Sun Ute Community Center fields. 44 Ignacio and Bayfield youth attended the summer soccer camp that covered basic soccer fundamentals dribbling, passing, shooting and small sided games. Campers also got to swim everyday at Sun Ute pool.

Royalty Report: Southern Ute Brave

Southern Ute Royalty smile with Santa at the Taste of an Old Fashioned Christmas, Friday, Dec. 4 at the ELHI Community Center. The event had numerous vendors selling arts and crafts as well as baked goods. There was also Christmas ornament making and a gingerbread house contest.
