10 Years Ago: Dignitaries from the Colorado state government and the Ute tribes gathered on Thursday, March 22 in the halls of the state Capitol for a historic flag ceremony. The state is keeping the flags of the Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute tribes on display outside Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia’s office in recognition of their sovereign governments. Gov. John Hickenlooper took a few moments following the ceremony to greet members of Southern Ute Royalty and the Tribal Council. 20 Years Ago: On March 26, 2002, Tim Ryder led a drum making workshop for Ignacio youth at the Southern Ute Cultural Center.
