Recent precipitation did allow for La Plata County and the Southern Ute Reservation to downgrade fire restrictions, but Southwest Colorado remains in an extreme drought following a mild winter.

Despite recent rainfall, water levels remain much lower than average for the region. The shoreline continues to recede at Vallecito Lake, as the demand for water exceeds the runoff.
