Robert Williams brings nearly 30 years of law enforcement and public safety experience to his new role, offering a strong background in leadership, training and operational command. Originally from Michigan, Williams has built a distinguished career through service in the military and with local, state, tribal, federal and private-sector public safety organizations. He is widely respected for his professionalism, accountability and service-centered approach to leadership.

Williams began his public service career in the United States Air Force, where he supported nuclear and conventional operations as part of B-52 aircraft maintenance. He entered law enforcement in 1995 and went on to serve in a wide range of patrol, K-9, tactical, training, supervisory and command assignments. Much of his career was spent serving on tribal lands, where he gained extensive experience in rural policing, personnel development and multi-agency coordination. His specialized work includes traffic safety, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons (MMIP) efforts, SORNA-related enforcement, K-9 operations and SWAT, including service as assistant SWAT commander.

A graduate of the University of Chicago Police Leadership Academy in 2024, Williams brings a strong commitment to professional standards and continuous improvement. “I am excited for the opportunity to serve the people of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe,” Williams said. “The most meaningful and rewarding part of my career has been serving on Indigenous lands and working alongside Native communities, and I look forward to bringing my experience and commitment to this role.”
