Southern Ute Indian Academy students from Anne Peck’s Elementary Classroom 4 finish their ribbon shirts and dresses on January 14. Dancers made their way through Fort Lewis College’s Native American Center following the unveiling of the center’s recently commissioned totem pole. The pole recognizes and celebrates the hundreds of Alaska Native students at the college as well as the diversity of the campus as a whole. Bringing the community together on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 were the Git Hoan dancers and David Boxley of the Tsimshian people, who carved the elaborate totem.
