Kanip’s uncle, AJ Kanip, gives a brief overview of Bear Dance history and encourages spectators to come out and experience the annual spring celebration.

The annual Northern Ute celebration powwow filled the Fort Duchesne, Utah powwow grounds from Thursday, July 3 through Sunday, July 6. Hosted by the Ute Indian Tribe, visitors from far and wide came to enjoy top notch singers, champion dancers, and a variety of special dance contests. Saturday morning, the annual parade went through the powwow grounds, Southern Ute Royalty gave out candies and other goodies to community members and visitors. This year’s celebration saw a large audience, with champion host drums, Midnight Express and High Noon, all heard jamming songs during the weekend.
