The Southern Ute Bear Dance is highly anticipated over the Memorial Day weekend each year in Ignacio. This Ute celebration brings many Natives and non-natives together from throughout the region each spring, including members of the Ute sister tribes; the Ute Mountain Utes who travel from Towaoc, Colo., White Mesa Utes who travel from Blanding, Utah and the Northern Utes who travel from Ft. Duchesne, Utah for the annual Bear Dance. Other events include graduations, powwow, the Los Pinos Spring Classic softball tournament and the Veteran’s Day of Remembrance program.
