The Growth Fund held a barbecue at the Three Springs Plaza in Durango, Colo. in recognition of their commitment to environmental and human safety, Wednesday, Aug. 17. The lunch was catered by Serious Texas BBQ.
The team at Red Cedar Gathering Company and Aka Energy Group were awarded two prestigious oil & natural gas operation safety awards.
Growth Fund Executive Director, Shane Seibel talks with Kenneth Garcia who is employed with Red Cedar Gathering Company. Staff enjoyed a quick lunch and then went back to the field to ensure operations were maintained.
Red Cedar Gathering Company also invited Tribal Council and the Growth Fund Management Committee to the barbecue including council member Lorelei Cloud and Growth Fund Management Committee Tribal Member –At Large, Wendell Vigil.

Tribe, Growth Fund earn prestigious safety awards in energy sector 


Red Cedar Gathering Company and Aka recognized 

Red Cedar Gathering Company and Aka Energy Group were awarded with two prestigious safety awards in May of this year. GPA Midstream Association, one of the foremost organizations representing the oil and gas midstream industry in the United States, acknowledged the two tribal company’s commitment to environmental health and safety. 

Both companies received the Second Place Safety Award and Perfect Record Award in their respective divisions for safety performance in 2021. Red Cedar Gathering Company and Aka Energy Group staff were recognized with an outdoor barbecue at the Three Springs Plaza in Durango, Colo., Wednesday, Aug. 17. 

“On behalf of both companies, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support we have received from the Tribal Council regarding the importance of safe operations,” said Coy Bryant, President & COO of Red Cedar Gathering Company/Aka Energy Group. “The protection of our employees, contractors, the public, and the environment is our top priority, and that begins with the emphasis placed on safety by the Tribal Council and the Growth Fund Management Committee — thank you for your continued support and leadership.” 

Members of the Southern Ute Tribal Council were invited to the barbecue luncheon catered by Serious Texas BBQ; the Tribal Council expressed their appreciation and commitment for environmental and personal safety. 

“The culture of safety has permeated throughout the entire organization,” Bryant emphasized. “If we achieve our environmental health and safety goals, we will be sure to achieve our financial goals, the great work on behalf of each of you have demonstrated that over the last year.”  

Red Cedar Gathering Company is a midstream energy company that gathers, treats and compresses natural gas from producers within the tribal boundary and then delivers the gas to various interstate transportation pipelines. Red Cedar is a division of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s Growth Fund. GPA Midstream Association’s mission is to responsibly serve and represent the midstream energy industry through collaborative expertise, safety and advocacy from its member companies and staff, focused on sustainability, to the benefit of all.
