40 Years Ago: Dallas Brown, Rusty Box, Tim Jefferson and Russel Box Sr. setting up a Tee Pee at the La Plata County Fairgrounds during the La Plata County Fair held in Durango. Sunshine Cloud’s grandchildren, Russell Box Sr. family and Jim Jefferson family participated in the fair by Indian dancing in from of the Tee Pee.

Lexy young hugs Southern Ute Tribal elder, Lynda Grove-D’Wolf goodbye. D’Wolf taught Ute language to the Youth Employment Workers all summer long, their last class together was on Thursday, August 9.

30 Years Ago: The Southern Ute Youth Group proudly displays their first place blue ribbon they won at the Cultural Heritage Festival in Farmington on Oct. 9 and 10. The members who participated were L-R: Sheila Ryder, Eddie Box Jr., Betty Box, Benito Casias, JoGenia Red and in front Sarah Hudson. Other youth group members not pictured were Joe Mayokok, Bertha Box, Snow Bird Box, and Eddie Box Sr. Part of the group who did not participate were Sadie Frost, Theodosha Frost, Rhonda Frost, Toniette Baca.
