Remember us? ’Cats rejoining 3A ranks

Elisia Cruz creates a gameplan alongside her chosen teammates on Saturday, July 23 during the Benefit Basketball Camp hosted by Elisia Cruz and Gabe Tucson at SunUte Community Center. The pair will be attending Bacone College in the fall and have been fundraising monies to assist in their higher education fees. During the basketball camp fundraising event, children learned various basketball skills and competed in a friendly scrimmage with their peers to complete the community event.

Shooting for the stars

The Dorothy Burch Box Scholarship award was given to Elisia Cruz (pictured above) for the 2022 school year; the scholarship was given by Eddie and Betty Box Jr. and family. The scholarship is given in honor of Dorothy Burch Box, wife of Edward Bent Box Sr. A deserving student, or students, is selected for the scholarship each spring. This award has been awarded by the Box family for a number of years, to keep the memory of Dorothy Burch Box alive.

Elisia Cruz and Gabe Tuscon hold a bake sale and beadwork sale in the Hall of Warriors, Tuesday, July 12. All the money generated helps with college costs. Cruz and Tuscon will both be attending Bacone College. Bacone College is the nation’s oldest American Indian institution of higher learning and the oldest higher education institution in Oklahoma.

Fundraising for college

Ignacio shortstop Jacob Gallegos (12) accepts congratulations from Evergreen Clear Creek's Jett Baker (18) after the Bobcats eliminated the Golddiggers from the postseason, in the 2A-Region VIII Tournament semifinals up at Wiggins H.S. Gallegos was recently named not only First Team All-SJBL, but SJBL Player-of-the-Year after his fielding and hitting (plus pitching in a pinch) helped the Bobcats improve from 5-9-1 overall in 2021 to 15-8 in 2022.

Tucson committed to the NAIA-level Warriors Thursday, May 12, inside IHS Gymnasium.
