On Tuesday, June 5, the SunUte Community Center’s Recreation staff hosted a fishing field trip to Lake Capote under pristine blue skies. Open to youth from eight to 18, the staffers gave summer students a chance to get their lines in the water and share some quality outdoor time with peers on the tribally owned reservoir. Burch Tribal Administration Building during a lunch meeting in which the girls asked questions and Casias shared stories from her childhood. Former Media Manager of The Southern Ute Drum, David Brown receives a Pendleton blanket from Executive Officer, Byron Red and Acting Tribal Information Services Director, Larry Tucker. A dinner was held for Mr. Brown on March 30, 2006 at the Ouray Room. Brown worked for the Southern Ute Tribe for eight years and decided to leave the organization to pursue other interests. Photo published April 14, 2006.

10 Years Ago: Southern Ute Royalty members braved the cold for this year’s Snowdown Light Parade the evening of Feb. 4, 2011 aboard a grand float that made its way down Main Avenue in Durango. The annual procession is the high point of the weeklong celebration, which encourages residents to come out and mingle despite the weather. Miss Southern Ute First Alternate Sage Rohde mixes in with the crowd as the floats are finalized and the excitement builds for the parade. This photo was first published in the Feb. 11, 2011, issue of The Southern Ute Drum.

On Saturday morning May 22, 2004 — Southern Ute Tribal Chairman Howard D. Richards, Sr. addressed those gathered in Aspen, Colorado’s Rio Grande Park to view the Vietnam Veterans’ Traveling Memorial Wall. The four-day event was free and open to the public.
