Wrestlers starting ’14 at home

Believed to have been in the mix for a top-six finish in their final pre-Christmas action, the Ignacio Bobcats will look to continue their quality wrestling and begin 2014 on a high note at home.

Unranked in On The Mat’s most recent Class 2A team table, IHS will host non-league Center in dual action Friday, Jan. 10, with a start time tentatively set for 7 p.m.

After facing the seventh-ranked Vikings, Cody Haga’s crew will set out bright and early and travel out to PSHS for the Pirates’ annual Rocky Mountain Invitational.

Wrapping up 2013, Ignacio competed at the dual-format Piedra Vista Panther Invitational down in Farmington, N.M., on Dec. 21, against a field also including PVHS, PVHS’ JV, Gallup Miyamura, Aztec, Gallup, Kirtland Central, Moriarty and Farmington from the NMAA’s Class 4A ranks; Bloomfield, Shiprock and Newcomb from its 3A realm; Dove Creek, Dolores and Mancos from Colorado’s 2A; and Arizona 3A-Div. IV Fort Defiance Window Rock.

Owner of an extensive MMA background, notably in the King of the Cage circuit, Levi Stout’s Panther varsity, dubbed “PV Blue” for the event, handily defeated his junior varsity (aka PV Silver) in the all-deciding duel, and Bloomfield placed third after defeating Miyamura 42-26.
