Former Chief Judge for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Pearl Casias received a plaque for her dedication and leadership on Wednesday, May 15 at the Casias-Newton Justice Center. Casias served as the Tribal Court’s Chief Judge from 1979-1989 & 1992-1994.
James “Mike” Olguin, standing alongside his mother Josephine Olguin, speaks about his sister, former Chief Judge Elaine Newton. Newton served as Associate Judge for four years and became Chief Judge for 17 years. Olguin spoke about her desire to help and serve the Southern Ute tribal membership to the best of her ability. She received a plaque for her dedication and services on Wednesday, May 15.
Tribal Councilwoman Marge Barry spoke about her time with both honorees, Casias and Newton during their dedications at the Casias-Newton Justice Center.
