The Trekkers mentoring program paid a visit to the Southern Ute Indian reservation on Friday, July 21 as part of their cross-country educational tour. The Trekkers motto is, “Connecting Young People with Caring Adults.” The youth group visited Tribal campus, The Southern Ute Drum and finished their time in Ignacio with a tour of the Southern Ute Museum.
Southern Ute Drum staffers, Robert Ortiz and Maria Rivera, gave the visiting students an introduction in the Leonard C. Burch building’s Hall of Warriors, followed by a brief history of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and the role of tribal media. Trekkers is a non-profit, outdoor based mentoring program located in Thomaston, Maine.
