My name is Shyla Cloud, and I have been nominated for Southern Ute Student of the Season for spring 2025. I have been nominated by Southern Ute Education Department teacher Julie Stone. I attend Ignacio Middle School where I am an eighth grader. My parents are Gabrielle Herrera and Jared Carel.  

I enjoy spending time with my friends from school and my favorite school subject is physical education. My positive role models include my family members and specifically my cousins. When I grow up, I would like to have a career in basketball.  

Southern Ute Education Department teacher Julie Stone said, “Many teachers of Shyla have nominated her for this honor because she is truly amazing and great to work with in school. Shyla always tries her best, works hard, and is respectful – she is kind to her teachers and her peers. She is well liked by many!” 

Teachers at Ignacio Middle School shared, “We really like Shyla and have enjoyed seeing her growth throughout middle school – she will do great in high school! We will all miss her next year.” 

Shyla’s family shared their pride in her accomplishments, sharing, “Shyla is an amazing and smart girl. She has a great sense of humor; she is also very passionate in her hobbies and everything she sets her mind on. Shyla loves playing basketball and we can’t wait to see her excel, as well as further her skills in high school. We love you Shy!”
