Members of the Southern Ute Veterans Association rekindled an old tradition, by visiting with students at the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy. Association Commander, Howard Richards Sr. and Gordon Hammond each spoke to the students about their military service and the roles that Utes have historically played in defending American soil. Richards was also joined by his grandson, Joe Howell.
Southern Ute Veterans Association members, Howard Richards Sr. and Gordon Hammond fold the American flag into a triangle as part of their classroom demonstration on Friday, Nov. 17. There’s a longstanding tradition in the U.S. military in which the American flag is folded into a triangle, today this is often for display or proper storage.
