End of the year excitement was at a high as the Southern Ute Indian Montessori Academy (SUIMA) celebrated and honored those students who will be transitioning to the next level or into Public Schools with a parade-like event on Thursday, May 20. The event featured drumming from singers, Yellow Jacket; a walking of colors from the Southern Ute Veterans Association; and support from Southern Ute Royalty. Teachers, family members, and Tribal Council gathered along the sidewalks of Ouray Drive to cheer on the transitioning students. The cars of parents and family members were elaborately decorated to show support for students as they proceeded along the route. COVID-19 restrictions were enforced and those in attendance were required to wear masks and practice social distancing, but that did not dampen the excitement of the day.
