The Ute Mountain Casino Hotel hosted a Powwow and Hand Game event from Friday, July 31 to Sunday, Aug. 2 in Towaoc, Colo., featuring host drums; The Boyz of Twin Cities, MN and Motown of Red Lake, MN. The three-day event brought dancers and singers from the Four Corners area and beyond to celebrate culture and heritage. The Ute Mountain Casino Hotel Powwow and Hand Game event, saw a large attendance with many anticipating the songs from both championship drum groups, along with the competitive dancing, variety of vendors, and warm weather.
Jr. Men’s Northern Traditional dancers wear their best for Saturday Night Live or “SNL” Grand Entry. Dancers enjoyed the sounds of The Boyz singers as they filled the arena.

Jr. Women’s Jingle Dress dancer, PrairieRose Jack, competes on Saturday evening in Towaoc – Jack is a prominent and champion powwow dancer, known for her graceful yet powerful style of dance.
Emma Powaukee Kanip showcases her style of dance during the Jr. Women’s Northern Traditional category on Saturday evening.
Jaron “Bubbas” Yazzie competes in the Jr. Men’s Fancy category on Saturday in Towaoc. Wearing two round bustles, Yazzie showcases the original style of Men’s Fancy dancing.
