In honor of Native American Heritage month in November, the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum hosted Hand Game classes for adults and children within the community. Instructed by Waynoka Whiteskunk, the month-long program introduced the fundamentals and basic strategies of the traditional Hand Games. The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum will host another class for new and continuing participants Tuesday, Jan. 9, from 5:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Large Classroom at the Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum, the class is open to all that are interested.
Pictured left to right, Southern Ute Brave, Henry Whiteskunk II, Daisy House Eagle, Katrina Baker, and Cassandra Atencio won their first Handgame Tournament at the Ute Mountain Ute Community Center in Towaoc, Colo. on Sunday, Dec. 10.
Hand Game players from Towaoc and White Mesa visited on Thursday, Nov. 21, to help further teach and play a few games with the class at the Southern Ute Cultural Center & Museum.
