Sharing stories

The Southern Ute Royalty hosted their first Ute Storytelling presentation, which filled the Southern Ute Museum, Friday, March 2. Traditional Ute stories were shared by Southern Ute elders, Alden Naranjo and Russel Box Sr., cultural representative Cassandra Atencio also presented an art piece depicting Ute history. Royalty and elders stand together with Councilman Cedric Chavez and Cultural Department Director Edward Box III for a photo following the presentations.
Southern Ute elder, Sanjean Burch had a front row seat during the Ute Storytelling presentation.
Cassandra Atencio, NAGPRA Coordinator for the Southern Ute Cultural Department, shared a painting, expressing her Ute history though symbolism.
