Newly elected Chairman Melvin J. Baker completes his oath to the Southern Ute Indian Tribe marking the beginning of his second term in office on Monday, Dec. 18 during the Southern Ute Tribal Council Inauguration Ceremony. Held at the Sky Ute Casino, friends, relatives, and visiting dignitaries gathered to celebrate the inauguration of both Chairman Baker and newly elected Councilman Marty Pinnecoose.

Visiting dignitaries, family members and friends gathered at the Sky Ute Casino Resort to celebrate the Southern Ute Tribal Council Inauguration Ceremony for both Chairman Melvin J. Baker and Councilman Marty Pinnecoose. On Monday, Dec. 18, Chairman Baker and Councilman Pinnecoose completed their oath of office in-front of a large crowd overseen by Honorable Judge Scott Moore. Following the presentation of colors by the Southern Ute Veterans Association and the honor songs provided by Yellow Jacket Singers, Chairman Baker and Councilman Pinnecoose gave their initial address to all in attendance. The event was wrapped up with words of encouragement provided by Southern Ute Royalty and from visiting dignitaries.
