10 years ago: Southern Ute Chairman Jimmy R. Newton Jr. thanks Records Manager Larry Tucker for his 20 years of service to the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. Tucker’s last day on the job was Friday, July 26. 20 years ago: Southern Ute Veterans Association members Ronnie C. Baker and Roderick L. Grove attended the July 26 unveiling of a Memorial to Costilla Country, Colorado sons who sacrificed their lives in military service during World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Baker and Grove, both Vietnam era veterans, are shown standing next to the memorial, which is located next to the American Legion Hall in San Luis, Colo. 40 years ago: Farewell Luncheon: The Health Services staff gave a surprise luncheon for Shirley Esparza on Aug. 4. Esparza has moved to Texas with her family.
