Dewitte J. Baker received a Student Achievement award for academic excellence. Baker was enrolled in a Criminal Justice Program at Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colo. and made the Dean’s List for the 1991 Fall Semester. Members of the Southern Ute community came together, Tuesday, May 1, 2012, for an informative workshop at the Multi-purpose Facility in Ignacio to learn about making traditional dresses and ribbon shirts. Painting by Oreland C. Joe, Indian sculptor and artist, born in 1958 in Shiprock, N.M. on the Navajo Reservation. Joe is Navajo and Southern Ute and an enrolled member of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe. This photo first appeared in the May 7, 1982, edition of The Southern Ute Drum.
On April 24, 2002, the Southern Ute Veterans donated jackets to the Vocational Rehabilitation Program for the May 9 basketball “Shoot Off” held at the Ignacio Junior High School. Veteran Russel Box and Southern Ute Veterans Service Officer Rod Grove presented the jackets to Wilinda GoodTracks of Vocational Rehab.
