10 years ago: The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe hosted its annual Bear Dance in the hot sun in Towaoc June 4-7. The celebration invites participants to leave their worries behind and begin the year anew. Chairmen Ernest House Sr. of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and Curtis Cesspooch of the Northern Ute Tribe dance with partners after the line has broken into individuals.

30 years ago: On Friday, June 15, 1990, at a Southern Ute Tribal Council review meeting, Chairman Leonard C. Burch presented Steve Herrera with a plaque for his service to the Southern Ute Tribe as the water plant foreman.
