20 YEARS AGO: Arguably the highlight of the NAIG Athletes’ trip to Canada was the whale watching voyage out in Victoria Harbor. Over the course of the day, nearly all of the Ute athletes traveled by high-speed boat to a nearby island where Orcas (killer Whales) were feeding on salmon. The kids saw pods of eight or nine whales, some of them breaching, as shown here. This photo first appeared in the Aug. 15, 1997, edition of The Southern Ute Drum.
