Obituary: Clifford S. Baker


Clifford S. Baker of Ignacio, passed into eternal life, surrounded by family, July 28, 2015. He was 91.

Mr. Baker was born October 8th, 1923 in Ignacio, Colo., to Frank and Lucille Baker. He grew up in Ignacio and worked for the Southern Ute Indian Tribe in different capacities.

In his spare time he enjoyed spending time in Spring Creek, working his land, tending to his house, farming and raising livestock. He loved reading the newspaper everyday, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family (especially grandkids and great-grandkids). His words always brought wisdom and life lessons with humor and love.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Sarah Baker, 2 sons: Ronnie Baker and Melvin Baker and 2 daughters: Ann Blackbird and Connie Mae all of Ignacio, sister: Vida Peabody of Ignacio.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Mellie Santistevan, brother: Eugene Baker, three sons: Iden, Wesley and Ted Baker, three grandsons: Ronald Baker, Shonie Baker, and Travis Blackbird.

A service were held, July 31, at the Southern Ute Memorial Chapel, 258 Ute Road, Igancio, Colo., with Deacon Larry Tucker officiating. Burial took place at Ouray Memorial Cemetery.
