American youth ride into Ignacio

Southern Ute Chairman, Christine Sage and Jr. Miss Southern Ute Autumn Sage welcomed all the riders, families and sponsors of the American Youth Bull Riding Finals on Thursday, Nov. 15.

Bayfield local, Luke Mackey rides a qualified eight second ride with a broken wrist on the last night of the bull riding. Mackey went home as the Sr. Steer Riding Champion with a custom belt buckle and a brand-new horse saddle.

Ignacio rider, Dustin Sanchez competes in the championship round of the Sr. Bull Riding division. Sanchez left the youth bull riding as a top ten contestant and with a custom belt buckle.

The annual American Youth Bull Riding Finals came back into town Thursday, Nov. 15, they kept the Sky Ute Fairgrounds busy and full of life through Saturday, Nov. 17. This year the bull riding brought in 130 contestants from all over the nation. The riders each entered in their respective category of wooly, steer and of course the Jr. and Senior bull riding divisions.
