Saturday afternoon, May 5, Ignacio Baseball’s two active-duty seniors were recognized after their final game at IHS Field. With father Steve Chapman and grandmother Norma Conley to his right, Marcus Chapman—pressed into playing shortstop rather than his regular first base due to absences—was the only Bobcat to score in a 14-1 loss to 3A Montezuma-Cortez. He reached base in the bottom of the third inning via an error on Panther leftfielder Kolby Waltman, then scored on an error charged to shortstop Ty Blackmer off Ian Weinreich’s bat. With mother Mikki Naranjo, grandmother Dixie Naranjo and cousin Tauri Raines all to his left, Kai Roubideaux struck out seven M-CHS hitters, but took the loss on the mound after pitching 3-1/3 innings and allowing nine runs. Testing their knowledge, the duo then served as base coaches during the junior varsity’s subsequent 21-9 loss.
