Special to the Drum

IHS’ Vanessa Gonzales was 26th (14.34) in the 100-meter dash prelims, while Kiana Valdez was a squad-best 22nd (29.76) in the 200 prelims. Emily Cundiff, who run 15.02 in the first of the meet’s 11 100-meter heat races and ended up 43rd, finished 29th in the 200 after clocking 30.52 seconds in the tenth of its 11 heats.
In a time of 1:14.03, Cundiff also came in 28th in the 400m prelims with Gonzales finishing 37th (1:17.53).
Charlize Valdez posted IHS’ best results on the track with her 11th-place 6:22.40 in the 1,600m run on Day 2, after booking a 16th-place 2:46.88 in the 800 on Day 1. Kiana Valdez’s best long jump of 14 feet, 0.5 inches landed her in 12th overall but was nearly 1.5 farther than her initial seeding distance.
Returning to the Land of Enchantment, the Lady ’Cats will next compete at the April 27-28 Bloomfield Invitational, then quickly prepare for the 2A/1A San Juan Basin League Championships on Tuesday, May 1.
