Tossing the apparatus 101 feet, four inches downrange inside Fred Cook Memorial Stadium on Day 2 of the meet, Ignacio’s sophomore finished in sixth place out of 52 total competitors – including 3A Pagosa Springs senior Keena Murphy, who threw a winning 123’10” and defeated 4A Durango’s Azalea Santillan by 8’1”.

3A Bayfield’s Mikayla Barnes (109’2”), 5A Bloomfield, New Mexico’s Micaela Abeyta (105’6”) and PSHS’ Alondra Hernandez (101’6”) rounded out the top five.

IHS’ Vanessa Gonzales was 26th (14.34) in the 100-meter dash prelims, while Kiana Valdez was a squad-best 22nd (29.76) in the 200 prelims.
