On Saturday, March 19, the Mid America Youth Basketball tournament made its way into Ignacio. Boys and girls teams from across Colorado, grades elementary to high school, met in Ignacio to compete. On the 5th-6th-grade girls bracket, the Ignacio Bobcats went head-to-head against New Mexico’s Magic. The Bobcats kept their game up in both halves, but fell short in the second with a loss at 34-14. Ignacio’s Shooting Stars (8th-grade girls) kept up the pace in all games and came out steadily, placing 2nd overall in the 8th grade girls division. In the 8th grade boys group, the Ignacio Wildcats met Montezuma’s Storm at Ignacio High School for an intense matchup. Both teams kept it neck-in-neck in the second half, going into overtime with a score of 37-37. Montezuma’s Storm came out on top in the final minutes, defeating Ignacio Wildcats 44-38. Additionally in the high school boys’ bracket, the Ignacio Warriors clashed with the Flint Tropics, keeping the audience at the edge of their seat with a close game. The Warriors wound up victorious in the last half, defeating the Flint Tropics with a final score of 56-54.
