Pine River Shares (PRS) is hosting a Last-Ditch Concert and Cookout to raise funds to buy a 1.2-acre former school property located in Bayfield to create a lasting community home for Pine River Shares and other providers of social services for Pine River Valley residents.

From its homebase in Bayfield, Colo., PRS is a multi-faceted social justice project that supports numerous peer-led programs that help residents of the Pine River Valley thrive.

PRS is co-housed with the Community Treehouse, Pediatric Partners of the Southwest in a retired school building located at 658 South East Street in Bayfield. Last year, these groups joined forces to create a new regional Pine River Community Resource Center (PRCRC) with the goal of expanding community services for residents of the rural, frontier and tribal communities in eastern La Plata County. New tenants include the Grief Center of the Southwest and the Bayfield Farmers Market.

The groups were notified in December that the Bayfield School District planned to sell the property. Faced with the school district’s decision and no other commercial property available to house our programs, PRS decided to make an offer to purchase the property. The group is currently under contract with plans to convert the property into a lasting community home for PRS and other community and other social services providers for Pine River Valley residents.

On Friday, May 1, 5-8 p.m., PRS is hosting a Last-Ditch Concert and Cookout on the property to raise funds in advance of the May 5 closing date.

Festivities will be held on the playground. Tickets are available at the gate for a minimum donation of $10. Gates open at 5 p.m. Local contemporary folk band Quartermoon performs. Food available for purchase. All proceeds go to the Building Fund.

The PRCRC, located at 658 South East Street in Bayfield, Colo. offers affordable rental and event space for organizations providing essential services for residents of the Pine River Valley. For more information, or to inquire about available space for rent or use.
