Your hometown library is not only a superb place to find the information and entertainment you seek, but I bet you didn’t know we can be a source for interesting and unique gifts and merchandise.
First and foremost is our bookstore. The bookshelves upstairs are filled with an eclectic collection of new and old fiction and non-fiction books, audio books, DVDs, and rare selections you might not find anywhere else. The selection is constantly changing as we process the donations and collection deletions we receive. Hardcovers, audio books, and DVDs are only a dollar, and softcovers are $.50.
The library also has been having art auctions usually featuring a piece by one of our local artists. This is a silent auction format, so stop by and make a bid for a one-of-a-kind personal work. We also have artists’ work on display around the library, and many of these talented artisans are willing to part with their masterpieces given the proper incentive. Contact library staff if you would like to make a deal with any of these regional artists.
Our crafting classes are a great opportunity for making quality items that anyone would be happy to receive. In November you can learn to make personalized kitchen towels using the Cricut Machine. November’s class with Glowforge Laser Engraver & Cutter will feature holiday ideas. We also have weekly opportunities to learn crafting skills. Mondays feature a sewing class with machines available for you to use. Tuesdays are for electronics, Wednesdays the art group meets, and Thursdays are time for the fiber arts with our knitters.
Did you know the library sells items on eBay? We currently have over 80 products listed and the money raised from this sale helps to support activities and purchases in the IdeaLab, ICL’s engaging makerspace. Items listed on our eBay sale include books, record albums, electronic devices, and other odd items donated or taken out of service by the library. If you are interested in viewing any of the items in our eBay sale, contact Ron at the IdeaLab.
Giving is a positive action that provides benefits for both the giver and receiver, improving mental, physical and social well-being. Giving can help produce “happy hormones” and reduce stress hormones and blood pressure and strengthen the immune system. As you make plans for holiday giving this season, consider shopping locally and supporting our community in the process.
