Due to recent rain and moderating fuel conditions, Stage I fire restrictions will be rescinded for all trust lands throughout the Southern Ute Indian Reservation. While most areas have received rain, there are some areas that have only received a small amount and are still relatively dry. Drought conditions persist in those areas and so everyone on the Reservation is still asked to be cautious and use common sense with fire.
This fire season has been long and challenging for firefighters with seven large fires occurring within the area and two impacting Southern Ute Reservation lands. The Ute 63 (550 acres) and the Rim Road (97 acres) fires required incident management organizations and were suppressed successfully. All other fires (34 total fires) were kept under 10 acres with no injuries or accidents.
For more information regarding fire restrictions, please visit Southern Ute Agency Fire Management at 575 County Road 517, Ignacio, CO 81137.
Stage II Restrictions will be rescinded at 6 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025.
