My job as Assistant Director here at Ignacio Community Library includes wearing many different hats. I am the primary driver of adult programming, I do all the digital materials processing, and I help with digital services for patrons when they have particularly difficult tech issues. I can provide readers advisory services for patrons when they want help selecting their next great read. I also support the daily library operations through various tasks that are needed each day. Our adult programming has been going really well, and many lovely patrons have been attending the events we host here. This gave me a chance to meet and interact with a range of adults in the community, which has been an absolute pleasure. In a public library serving a small community, we as library employees can cross over the typical library work divisions and help in areas not specifically within our regular duties; and last month, I had the pleasure of helping with our monthly teen night.
The teen night event last month was a taco bar followed by laser tag and it was a blast! I had a lovely time, and it was such a pleasure to meet the wonderful teens who came to the program. I am assuming that the teens who came to this event are a representative sample of a cross-section of teens from our community. Based on my experience and observation of these kids I can definitively say that Ignacio teens are wonderful people! Not only were these kids fun to be around, but they were also nice. They were nice to me, so nice to Miss Helen (coordinator of youth programming), and most impressively, they were nice to each other! If these are your children, great job raising lovely people. If these aren’t your children, they might be your neighbor or someone you know from around town. I invite you to get to know the teens in our community, as they are quite remarkable people.
I look forward to helping with teen programming in the future and with our Summer Reading program, where I will have much more opportunity to spend time with kids and teens while they are here more and not at school most Mondays through Thursdays. I continue to be impressed and moved by how lovely this community is; come and see us at the library and let us know how we can serve you today!
