Kree Lopez was a part of the all-woman cast for the film “Basket Lady” created this summer in Towaoc, Colo. by Ute Mountain Ute Tribal youth. Lopez answered questions from the audience during the Film Screening Fundraiser event held on Thursday, Dec. 19 by the Southern Ute Education Department.
Southern Ute Tribal member Leandra Litz answers questions about her experience working with other youth this summer during the Film Workshop hosted by the Southern Ute Education Department, on Thursday, Dec. 19. The Southern Ute Education Department hosted a film screening in support of SUIMA; during the event attendees enjoyed concessions and watched three films created by Tribal youth and a special screening of the “Basket Lady” film created by Ute Mountain Ute Tribal youth.
Tribal elder Russell Blackbird thanked all who had a hand in creating these films and encouraged attendees and creators to continue to contribute to the film world, sharing stories and educating others about the culture of the Ute people. Films “A Place to Explore,” “Tri-Ute Games,” and “The Basket Lady” give an insight into daily life, tradition, and cultural stories from the Ute tribes, students spent the summer learning about film making and had the opportunity to share a story pertinent to themselves and their respective Tribe.
