The Colorado Department of Transportation have placed concrete barriers along a short section of Colorado Highway 172, three miles north of the New Mexico state line.

A speed reduction of 40 mph and 11-foot width restrictions will remain in place until permanent shoulder and culvert repairs are completed.

CDOT crews set temporary barriers and lane shifts after heavy monsoon rains caused erosion issues on the northbound highway shoulder.

Traffic Impacts

  • Speed reductions and width restrictions will remain in place 24 hours a day until further notice.
  • Traffic will be guided by cones, signs and electronic message boards.
  • 11 ft width restrictions are in place for northbound travelers.
  • Motorists will encounter lane shifts and 40 mph speed reductions.
