Drought conditions throughout the region have prompted stringent fire restrictions as multiple wildfires burn throughout Southwest Colorado and Northern New Mexico.

Due to recent rains and moderating fuel conditions, Stage I fire restrictions will be rescinded for all trust lands throughout the Southern Ute Indian Reservation. Everyone on reservation land is still asked to be cautious and use common sense with fire, as conditions may still dry out.

Since June, Southern Ute Agency Fire Management has responded to several fires on the Reservation and managed two large fires, the Arkansas Loop, and Coal Mine fires, that grew to 120 and 290 acres respectively. Firefighters were able to keep all other fires under 10 acres with no injuries or accidents.

For more information regarding Fire Restrictions, please contact Southern Ute Agency Fire Management at 970-563-4571.

Stage I fire restrictions were rescinded at 6 a.m., Sept. 1, 2023.
