A House subcommittee just approved legislation that would eliminate federal funding for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting (CPB), public radio and television stations’ largest single source of funding. The bill also strikes Interconnection funding, a federal program that ensures you receive your favorite public media shows and emergency alerts.

• Multiple studies confirm that eliminating CPB funding would devastate local public media service, forcing stations to cut valued programs and services or go off-air completely. 
• Public media is the only communications service that reaches virtually every American household – including communities that are underserved by other media sources. 
• Rural, remote, and tribal communities are more dependent on this federal support and would be the hardest hit by these proposals. 

• Without Interconnection funding, public media stations would not have the means to distribute public media programs or issue emergency alerts, endangering reliable access to these services.
